EIB plans key regional role for Greece


Greece will play a key role in the European Investment Bank’s (EIB) activity in the Balkans and the Mediterranean, according to the bank’s vice president, Gerlando Genuardi.

EIB granted a total of Ђ42.3 billion in loans in 2003 (compared to Ђ39.6 billion in 2002) of this, Ђ34.2 billion went to EU members and Ђ8.1 billion to non-members.

Greece received Ђ1.2 billion (Ђ1.07 billion in 2002) of which 32 per cent was for major projects in transport infrastructure, 29 per cent in urban development and 19 per cent in energy. The EU’s Mediterranean partners received Ђ2.1 billion.
