Thailand’s SMEs share resources, target increased competitiveness

A group of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has formed an alliance to pool resources and share strengths in order to improve their business competitiveness.

Operators of 63 SMEs have all completed training sessions in the Manufacturing Development To Improve Competitiveness (MDICP) programme at the Department of Industrial Promotion. The companies have now established MDICP Holding Ltd with registered capital of 50 million baht, under which they will share procurement, manufacturing and distribution operations to help cut operating costs.

The MDICP programme was set up in 1999 to help SMEs upgrade after they were battered by the economic downturn in 1997 that forced many of them to scale down or shut their operations.
