SMEs‘ access to formal finance needs to increase - says report


A survey on small-and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs) found the SMEs in food, leather, electronics and garment sectors to be the worst performers, recommending introduction of fiscal incentives to promote these sectors.

The panel survey, conducted jointly by the South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) and the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), was released Saturday through a discussion on the report at the conference room of the BEI.

Faruq Sobhan BEI President chaired the discussions and Mahmudur Rahman Executive Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) attended as a chief guest.

Former commerce minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, former adviser of the caretaker government Syed Manzur Elahi, former commerce secretary Alamgir Farouk Chowdhury, SEDF General Manager Anil Sinha, SM Al-Hussainy and President of the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Selima Ahmed participated in the discussion.
