Scotland’s new debt register costs revealed


Scotland's new Debt Arrangement Schemes will protect creditors from judgment enforcement except in special circumstances.

The schemes will apply where the debtor is either an individual or sole trader. So if you advance credit to such a person who has entered into a Debt Payment Programme (DPP), except in very special circumstances, you will be unable to carry our debt enforcement if they default in payment.

To alert unsuspecting creditors whether or not a person is taking part in DPP creditors will have the opportunity of inspecting the "Debt Arrangement Scheme Register"

Among other information it will detail those people who have applied for and/or have been approved to take part in a DPP.

So you should inspect the register before granting any type of credit.

The good news is the register will be web-based so searching should be quite straightforward: the bad news is that it will cost you to access the register as follows:
