Mixed profits for UK businesses – Cattles SME survey

A recruitment company in the North West was the best business to have if you were looking to increase your profits in 2003, whereas a haulage company in the North East was least likely to lead to business success, according to the annual business survey by Cattles Invoice Finance, which reported a mixed year in 2003 for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

Over 60% of recruitment companies announced increased profits over the previous year compared with just 24% of haulage companies. Print companies also enjoyed a healthy increase in profits, but other sectors such as clothing manufacturers and textiles companies, like haulage companies, continued to suffer with less than a quarter enjoying a better year than 2002.
