Lending to India’s MSMEs exceeding expectations

Lending to India’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is soaring and is increasing well beyond market expectations.  According to financialexpress.com India’s public sector financial institutions are rapidly expanding their lending to this sector, to the extent that their lending this year is well ahead of what they had anticipated. The banks SIDBI and SBI are on track to lend nearly Rs 1tn by the end of the current financial year. These developments are perhaps not surprising, because as the latest World Factoring Yearbook has shown the MSME sector has an almost insatiable appetite for funding. (Factoring volumes in India rose in value by 83 per cent in 2022).
