Amid an apparent renaissance of small-business spirit, the government will provide financial and consultation services to young entrepreneurs between 20 and 30 who start "smart enterprises", Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, said yesterday
Younger people are generally competent in such industries as food, furniture, jewellery and computer software, Somkid said. He was speaking at the "2003 SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) Revolution" at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, hosted by Krungthep Turakij, the Industrial Promotion Department and the SMEs Venture Capital Fund.
While the government would provide financial and consultation assistance, most of the necessary infrastructure for these businesses already exists.
He expressed the wish that all government agencies would collaborate to transform Thai industry and enable many SMEs to compete in the world market within the next few years.
