Malaysia posted an impressive growth in trade with Germany during the first half of 2003 over the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Hamburg-based Asia-Pacific Business Council.
The Council is the focal point of German corporations, traders and other organisations dealing with the Asia-Pacific region.
While the overall German trade with ASEAN member countries stabilised, ASEAN exports to Germany recorded a slight decline of 0.4 per cent over the previous year.
ASEAN's imports from Germany, meanwhile, posted a two per cent growth. Malaysia's trade profile was further sharpened by growth in both German exports and imports.
Malaysia's exports to Germany posted an impressive 10.2 per cent growth to Ђ1.739 bn, up from Ђ1.579 bn in the previous year's corresponding period. Malaysia's imports from Germany also rose by 18.6 per cent to Ђ1.449 bn, up from Ђ1.222 bn in the first six months of 2002.
