First economic indicator of the month – Report on manufacturing shows highest level since May 2002


August’s seasonally-adjusted CIPS/Reuters Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) – a composite indicator designed to provide an overall view of conditions in the manufacturing economy – posted its highest level since May 2002, coming in at 51.9 in August from an upwardly revised 51.1 in July.
