Credit inquiries could hit 5 m annually in Russia – Experian

The new Experian Interfax credit bureau could receive some 5 million credit inquiries per year, said John Hadlow, commercial manager of Experian, one of the world's biggest credit bureaus.

Experian receives 1.8 million inquiries per day for credit information in the United States, 2 million per week in Britain and 1 million per month in South Africa, Hadlow said at a press conference to mark the formation of the 50:50 Experian Interfax joint venture.

Comparatively speaking, the indications are that Experian Interfax will receive 5 million inquiries a year in Russia, Hadlow said, and that the information that credit bureaus collect would be in demand.

He observed, that Experian was used to strong competition, and had enough experience at setting up bureaus. Experian has set up 11 credit bureaus in various countries and will be able to run an efficient business in Russia if it is able to control the cost of services.
