CBI’s new president focus on restoring corporate reputation

Following confirmation of his appointment by the CBI's annual general meeting held in London yesterday, John Sunderland, executive chairman of Cadbury Schweppes plc, took over as president. The role is unpaid.

The new president says restoring the reputation of business and ensuring business is at the heart of policymaking for the next government will be his key priorities.

As he began his two-year term he said: "I want to use my presidency to re-focus business efforts on restoring corporate reputation. It has taken a real battering in recent years and if we don't put our own house in order, the talented younger generation will simply turn its back on all that business has to offer.

"Through the new Combined Code, UK business is now setting itself the highest standards of corporate governance in the world. We need to use it to help create a culture where the values of good corporate governance become programmed into everyday business management."
