According to Samoobrona (Self-defence) leader Andrzej Lepper, farmers’ protests have been caused by improper financial policy. "SMEs are going bankrupt, big plants are going bankrupt, unemployment rate is going up, people in some plants have not been paid for months and they cannot wait any longer," he stressed.
Lepper said that if the government did not change its current policy, farmers would continue to stage countrywide protests.
If the government does not meet farmer demands halfway, their protests will intensify. Other social groups, namely the unemployed, youth and old-age pensioners, are also taking part in the ongoing protests. These people said that they would not be waiting any longer. The culmination of this situation may take place in March, Lepper said.
Meanwhile farmers continued countrywide protests demanding better prices on farm products and improvements in Poland's economic situation.
