Four months after the visit of the Brazilian president Lula to Beijing, Brazil and China may resume negotiations about joint investments.
The Brazilian government has special interest in constructing another three stretches of the Norte-Sul railway network and in doubling the Port of Itaqui (Maranhao state).
These two projects, from the point of view of the Chinese, depend on the success of the PPPs (private-public partnerships) project.
China may invest US$4bn in Brazil this year according to United Nations Conference On Trade And Development (Unctad). There is a Brazil-China project that does not depend on the PPP project and has great chances of taking off.
The Gasene gas pipeline to join Cabiunas (Rio de Janeiro) and Catu (Bahia) is worth US$1bn and would be in charge of Petrobras and the Chinese Sinopec.
The resources would come from China Exim Bank, passed on to the Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econфmico e Social (BNDES).
