trade finance Trade Policy Working Capital North America 02-07-2026UK opens anti-dumping probe into US polyethylene importsThe UK Trade Remedies Authority has opened an anti-dumping investigation into imports of Linear Low-Density polyethylene from the United States, raising potential cost and supply-chain questions for UK importers, packaging firms and industrial users.LLD polyethylene is widely used across packaging, healthcare and manufacturing, including medical packaging, tubing and sterile applications. The TRA said the material underpins supply chains in healthcare, packaging and manufacturing. The investigation was launched following an application from INEOS Olefins & Polymers, whose production is based at Grangemouth in Scotland. The TRA will examine whether US imports are being dumped in the UK and whether they are causing injury to INEOS Olefins & Polymers, which the authority said represents the entirety of the UK industry for the product.Businesses that may be affected, including importers and downstream users, have been invited to register their interest by 16 July 2026. The period of investigation covers 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025, while the injury period runs from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025.For trade finance and working capital providers, the case matters because trade remedy investigations can alter procurement behaviour even before duties are imposed. Importers may need to reassess supplier exposure, build stock, manage contract uncertainty or adjust pricing assumptions while the investigation is under way.If duties are eventually recommended, businesses using LLD polyethylene could face higher landed costs and greater pressure on inventory finance, supplier credit and cash conversion cycles. The investigation also comes shortly after the UK tightened steel import rules, reinforcing the extent to which trade remedies are becoming a more active feature of supply-chain risk management. The case does not mean duties will definitely be imposed. The TRA said investigations typically run for up to 12 months and involve evidence from UK businesses, importers and overseas producers. But for affected sectors, the immediate issue is already clear: another key industrial input is now subject to closer trade policy scrutiny. #anti-dumping#INEOS#LLD polyethylene#supply chains#Trade Remedies Authority#UK imports#working capital
