The European Commission said it cleared under EU merger regulation the acquisition by Natexis Banques Populaires of control of Compagnie Francaise d'Assurance pour le Commerce Exterieur, Coface.
The commission said the takeover will have the greatest effect in France, but added that it is only on the factoring market where both firms are simultaneously present, and even there Coface has "marginal importance".
It added that there are larger competitors in the market for credit insurance business and export financing activities.
