Positive news was received on Tuesday (30 September) regarding the Finnish economy. Businesses expressed firmer confidence in the future in September. Output and capacity utilisation figures from Finnish industry were also higher in August than a year earlier.
The industry confidence indicator showed signs of taking off in September. The indicator measured by the Confederation of Finnish Industry and Employers rose from minus six to minus one. Production expectations, in particular, strengthened significantly. Also, the share of unused capacity grew smaller while the volume of orders increased slightly.
So far, there has been little evidence of any real changes for the better in the economy. Optimism mainly shows in expectations. Apart from the news of the upturn in industrial capacity utilisation - confirmed both by the Confederation of Finnish Industry and Employers and by Statistics Finland - the figures published on Tuesday contained little new information...
