It can generate a risk score before a payment is completed and feed the information into existing fraud and compliance systems. The commercial problem is becoming more significant as stablecoins move beyond straightforward transfers between two wallets.Mastercard cited a study examining 593 million stablecoin transfer events associated with 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025. Nearly 60% involved complex, multi-step activity rather than simple one-to-one transfers.Such complexity can reduce transparency over the ultimate origin and destination of funds. It does not, however, mean that the transactions were fraudulent.Mastercard is initially working with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails. The latter supports high-value cross-border trade payments, particularly in emerging markets, giving the development a direct connection to corporate payment flows.Borderless.xyz operates infrastructure connecting licensed stablecoin providers across more than 113 countries and 72 currencies, according to the announcement. The service is being introduced first in North America, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027. Mastercard has not disclosed transaction volumes screened through the new product or demonstrated reductions in actual fraud losses. For trade-finance and transaction-banking providers, the principal opportunity is to combine potentially faster settlement with stronger pre-payment checks.Stablecoins can change how money moves across borders, but the legal and commercial obligations attached to an underlying invoice or trade contract remain. Better risk intelligence may help institutions support those transfers without treating blockchain settlement as a substitute for counterparty verification and financial-crime controls. #blockchain analytics#Borderless.xyz#cross-border payments#Fraud Prevention#Keyrails#Mastercard#payment risk#sanctions screening#Stablecoin Security#stablecoins#trade payments
