Why are SMEs scared of PFI and PPP?

The Private Finance Initiative (PFI) market is worth around Ј4.5 billion per year but most small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) fail to win contracts, or often even to bid, in this area because of a lack of understanding as to how the process works.

Advisors at BDO Stoy Hayward have therefore produced a new guide: "The Providers Guide to Private Finance Initiatives", which offers a route map through the PFI and Public Private Partnership (PPP) process. Richard Tierney, head of PFI at BDO Stoy Hayward said: "PFI has been seen as an initiative for big firms only, but there are plenty of opportunities for smaller and medium-size firms too. These contracts can offer long-term, secure returns and our new guide shows how to choose the right contract and how to maximise the chances of success."
