Venture capital investments rise

Venture capital and private equity transactions have so far totaled Ђ113 million in 2003, according to figures released by the Hungarian Venture Capital Association (HVCA). According to the HVCA, the venture capital market has undergone a great degree of polarisation in 2003. A majority of smaller transactions, typically in the HUF 30-100 million (Ђ117,000-Ђ389,000) range, were carried out by the state-owned Small Enterprise Development Finance Rt and the Supplier Investment Rt, as the role of private capital in this segment decreased.

The value of venture capital investments will likely exceed last year's Ђ127 million figure, HVCA chairman told. The number of transactions has already exceeded last year's 29, HVCA data indicate. There have been 30 such transactions for the year to date, in 25 target companies.
