Unravelling government funding opportunities for Scottish SMEs

The way in which grants and funding are administered and delivered has been changed recently by the Scottish Executive. The aim is to broaden the availability of grants to ensure they are provided for the most appropriate business.

The following provides a guide to the present forms of funding available, with an explanation of who can apply.

Regional selective assistance (RSA)

These are discretionary grants used to "encourage businesses to invest in the Assisted Areas of Scotland, both creating and safeguarding jobs and contributing to the economic development of these needier areas," according to the latest Scottish Economic Report published last week.
