Unicredito Italiano Acquires Majority Stake in Demirbank Romania

A 62.5% stake in Demirbank Romania, the company which, according to figures submitted to Factors Chain International for the year 2000, accounts for 25% of Romania’s total factored volume, has been purchased by Unicredito Italiano. Unicredito Italiano is the parent company of Italian factors, Unicredit Factoring.

The acquisition could spell stronger international factoring links with Italy for Romania, especially as Demirbank Romania is currently the only Romanian company to offer import factoring. In addition to this, one of the four factors currently operating in Romania, a subsidiary of IFIS Italy, only offers a factoring service to companies whose debtors are located in Italy.
