Unexpected interest rates cut


The Riksbank, Sweden's central bank, surprised financial markets yesterday morning by lowering its key rate for the second time in less than a month, writes Nicholas George in Stockholm.

Cutting the repo rate by a quarter point to 3.75 per cent, the bank said weaker levels of industrial activity meant poorer prospects for the Swedish economy.
