South Korean SME income expected to double this year

A new equity fund has been set up to tap into growing investor interest in small- and medium-sized South Korean companies.

The Three Kingdoms Fund is the latest investment vehicle launched by London-based Fabien Pictet & Partners (FPP), a specialist emerging markets fund manager.

Fabien Pictet, chairman of FPP, said South Korean small- and medium-sized companies (SMEs) were among the most attractive investment opportunities in Asia but it was difficult for institutional investors to access the sector.

"For us, South Korea remains the most tantalising area of the investment world," he said. "Valuations in this segment of the market are the most compelling in Asia and we believe South Korean small and mid-cap company earnings will grow by over 100 per cent this year."
