SMEs get nearly US$4 billion in loans this year

A total of 1,104 small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) received US$3.981 billion in loans from Mexico's National Foreign Trade Bank in the first eight months of the year.

A communique by the state-run bank yesterday (23 September) said that the sum of US$3.458 billion was direct loans for capital and investment projects while the rest was granted to cover insurance and guarantees.

In August, US$379 million was granted without guarantors by the bank and the rest was distributed through commercial banks.

About 73 per cent of the fund benefited companies in food, pharmaceuticals, machinery, textiles and garment, and construction sectors based in Mexico City and the states of Nuevo Leon, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosi and the state of Mexico.
