SMEs exceed targets set for new exporters

So far this year, 1,150 small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have joined the export market, reported the undersecretary for the SME sector, Sergio Garcнa de Alba. This amount is already well above the 750 companies established as a target for integration into the export market, Garcнa said.

In fact, in light of the higher than expected results in this regard, the Economy Secretariat had already updated the goal to 1,150 and now, after just nine months, that goal has already been met.

With all of the programmes offered by the Economy Secretariat, and in many cases supported by Bancomext as well, some 1,250 small companies will likely become exporters by year's end, he said.

Most of the SMEs that have turned to direct exporting so far this year operate in foods, furniture and decorative articles, including crafts, while indirect exporters include SMEs in the automotive industry.
