SMEs per capita rising

The number of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) per capita in Bulgaria is close to that in the countries from the European Union, Antonio Fanelli of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development said during a meeting at the Bulgarian Economy Ministry on Tuesday.

Bulgaria boasts a total of 28 SMEs per one thousand citizens. In the countries in south-eastern Europe the average number is 12.5 while in the EU members the number is 52.8, according to data from a survey conducted in 2002 in Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro.
