Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) confidence was up two points to 46.7% in January, showing an unmistakable recovery from its low point measured in the summer months, according to Ecostat.
Ecostat's poll of Hungarian SMEs showed that pessimists outnumber optimists with regard to both their own situation (by 31% to 25%) and the state of the Hungarian economy (by 43% to 34%). While SMEs looked forward to opportunities for EU financial support, a substantial 48% of them also expected new, strong competitors to appear on their respective markets after EU accession.
Investment activity remained modest, with 45% of SMEs planning developments in the next six months. SMEs expect annual inflation of 7.1% this year.
