SME Bank adds value to lending services


The Small and Medium Enterprise Develop Bank of Thailand (SME Bank) has shifted its lending approach by providing totally integrated business support packages instead of just basic financial support, which it believes does not always ensure long-term success. President Chotisak Asapaviriya said that over the past three years, the bank had focused on providing financial support to SMEs that were unable to obtain funding from commercial banks concerned about accumulating bad debts. "But, now, it has been proven that lending to SMEs is not as high a risk as commercial banks thought," he said, adding that many SMEs that had received financial support from SME Bank were now thriving. "In addition, many of our clients have refinanced their debts with us and are now customers of commercial banks, an indication of a more promising outlook." Total funding to small
