Small Business Administration programme to lure more minorities

The Small Business Administration (SBA) has entered into agreements with a pair of minority business groups to try to increase their participation in SBA programmes.

As part of an agreement with the Hispanic Business Roundtable, the SBA will try to boost lending to Hispanic-owned firms by hosting informational forums in Hispanic communities.

Additionally, the groups will work together to promote SBA programmes and hold workshops for Hispanic-owned firms.

The SBA also entered into an agreement with the Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute to assist Native American communities.

The institute, which operates a two-year tribal college, will receive $531,000 to develop a small-business development training programme that uses SBA resources to shape a programme for tribal small-business communities.
