Slovakia gets Skk 32,1 million of new FDI in 2003.

New foreign direct investment (FDI) in Slovakia amounted to Skk32.1 billion (Ђ802.5 million) in 2003, down by Skk150 billion on a year-on-year basis.

Slovak firms invested Skk800 million abroad last year, according to the Slovak Statistics Office (SU SR). The reason for the comparative drop in FDI was the large privatisation in previous years more than anything else.

Most of the 2003 investments were made in companies, while the banking sector received only Skk1.8bn. Most important were investments from Germany (Skk10.7bn) and Hungary (Skk8.3bn). Almost 83 per cent of last year's investments were directed to Slovakia's most developed region, Bratislava, while Presov and Banska Bystrica regions got just 0.1 and 0.4 per cent of the total respectively.
