Slovak business confidence down in July

Businesses confidence in Slovakia’s economy dropped in July, when the business confidence index fell 2 points from +8 points in June, the Slovak statistical office reported.

The office attributes the decline in confidence to a negative assessment of the current level of total demand and less optimistic projections of future industrial production. The business confidence index is calculated according to the average assessment of total demand, stocks of finished products and expected volume of industrial production.

In the construction sector, confidence dipped to -20 points down in July from -15 points in June, as construction companies voiced concerns about total demand for their output and the expected employment rate. In the retail sector, the index stayed at 12 points as slight pessimism over the present business situation was balanced by optimism for the next three months.
