Siew to propose increase in the government's Small and Medium Business Credit Guarantee Fund

Former Premier Vincent Siew will make several proposals to President Chen Shui-bian today, with the focus on economic and financial development.

Siew, who is now the top economic adviser to the president, said his major suggestions will include an increase in the government's Small and Medium Business Credit Guarantee Fund (the Fund) to help more small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) obtain bank loans and an urban renewal programme. He said that these were the two proposals drawn up by consensus among the panel of advisers headed by him.

The Fund is used to provide guarantees for SMEs that cannot present sufficient collateral to borrow funds from financial institutions for business expansion.
