Shell Foundation and dfcu Leasing in $4m energy fund

Shell Foundation, a United Kingdom registered charity funded by the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies, dfcu Leasing and Shell Uganda, have launched an energy fund to help Small and Medium Energy Enterprises (SMEs) in Uganda.

The $4m fund will see each party contributing equally.

The fund aims at addressing the serious lack of modern sustainable energy sources in the country, especially in rural areas, by helping individual SMEs to overcome financial and technical bottle-necks in expanding their businesses.

The fund is also meant to support and compliment government efforts to deliver a diversity of affordable energy services to the poorer communities and local businesses on a profitable basis.
