Output growth in Helsinki region grinds to a halt

Output growth ground to a complete halt in the Helsinki region during the second quarter of the year. The employment situation has not improved, and in many sectors, the number of unemployed has grown. The developments in the Helsinki region economy are poorer than in other parts of the country.

According to a new report prepared by the Helsinki Chamber of Commerce, output declined during the second quarter particularly in the industrial sector and in business-to-business services.

Growth was witnessed in construction, retail sales, and services for households, which are all supported by local consumer demand.
