In or out, prepare to tackle the euro

Uncertainty over whether the UK will join the euro is causing difficulties for SMEs with European Union links as they have had to put in place mechanisms to operate, which assume the UK will join in the near future.

The Small Business Service report Tracking Euro preparations amongst UK SMEs with EU trade or ownership links looks at UK businesses which may be the most likely to gain from the euro over 1999-2002. An earlier study examined how businesses responding to the introduction of the euro on 1 January 1999 had fared and also what preparations they had made after the introduction of euro on 1 January, 2002.
