Norway

Gunnar Knudsen, Managing Director, Gerling Nordic Kredittforsikring AS

Introduction

The increasing need for credit insurance is likely to encourage considerable future growth in the Norwegian credit insurance market. One of the more obvious reasons for this is that the world is becoming smaller, in the sense that trading on a global basis is no longer the preserve of a few very large companies. Instead, the saturation of national markets has forced many companies to look worldwide for new business.

In Norway there are four companies competing for credit insurance business - Gerling Nordic Kredittforsikring AS, GIEK Kredittforsikring AS, NCM and Hermes.

Gerling bought the credit insurance division of UNI Storebrand in 1996 and changed the name of the company to Gerling Nordic Kredittforsikring AS.
