NBU forecasts FDI to exceed $2bn in 2004


According to the Finance Ministry's calculations, payments to reimburse foreign state debt of Ukraine will be covered from new borrowings of the government, which in 2004 will make about $1.1 billion, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported in its analytical note Estimation of the state of payment balance of Ukraine in the first half of 2004 and until the year end.

The growth of foreign direct investments (FDI) in Ukraine's economy in 2004 may exceed $2.1 billion.

This will make it possible for the NBU to raise the amount of international currency reserves by $5.4 billion to the amount equivalent to 3.9 months of goods and services import of the future period.

The growth of direct foreign investments in Ukraine's economy in January-June 2004 made $863 million, 22% up on the first half of 2003.
