Representatives of the Serbian Ministry of Economy and Privatisation (SMEP) and the European Commission (EC) talked on Wednesday (9 July) about the preparation of a national report on the state of the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) sector, and the implementation of the Strategy for the development of SMEs in Serbia by 2008.
Minister Aleksandar Vlahovic said that by signing the Thessaloniki declaration in June 2003, Serbia had endorsed the European Charter for Small Enterprises, and had committed itself to submit annual reports on its development and harmonisation with European Union (EU) standards.
Vlahovic told a press conference that the national report should be prepared by the end of September, and that it will be used as a basis for an EC study on the implementation of the European Charter for the Small Enterprises sector in Serbia. The report will also help define forms of aid the EC will offer Serbia in the process of EU accession.
