Ministry allocates US$12 billion to SMEs

The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) has mobilised $12 billion for on-lending to small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) as part of its efforts to develop the sector.

The Minister of SMED said the funds, which were released last week by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe under its productive sector support facility, would be disbursed through the Small Enterprises and Development Corporation (Sedco).

The disbursement will be in tranches to finance approved projects. All provinces have been allocated one billion dollars each with the exception of Harare and Bulawayo, which will receive US$ 2 billion each.
