Microsoft to finance SMEs

Microsoft, through its branch MS Capital and other credit institutions, will offer financing to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individuals to acquire computer equipment, reported Felipe Sбnchez, general director of Microsoft Mexico.

The executive said Microsoft would contribute risk capital so that interest rates are attractive for clients, but he did not disclose any specific figures. The plan will be carried out during the first half of 2003. During 2003, the company expects sales to grow between 15% and 22% in Mexico. In 2002, the company's sales reached US$225 million. The firm also plans to invest US$55 million in 2003, said Sбnchez.

Among new equipment releases for this year, the executive mentioned the "Media Center," a program integrating domestic appliances such as television, stereo, DVD, and others in a single device and that can be operated by remote control from a computer.
