MDV giving out up to RM1.5b loans to SMEs

Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV) will introduce micro loans of between RM500,000 and RM1.5 million for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in January next year.

"We are targeting 20 companies initially, mostly local companies," MDV chief executive officer and managing director Jiro Suzuki told reporters after delivering a luncheon address at the MSC-IAP Business Summit in Putrajaya yesterday. The seminar is organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute. Suzuki said MDV is currently working on the framework for the micro loans, which is expected to be finalised by October.

The loan is part of the company's new initiative for its current financial year which ends in March 2005.
