Mandatory e-invoicing extends to more companies in India

On Monday (8 March 2021), the Indian government made e-invoices mandatory for businesses with annual revenue of over INR 50 crore (US$6.85m) to apply from 1 April 2021.

On the recommendation of the GST Council, the Finance Ministry notified this change in the GST Act. The GST e-invoicing system was implemented from October 1, 2020, for businesses with annual turnover of INR 500 crore (US$68.49m) or more. It was then extended to businesses with over INR 100 crore (US$ 13.7m) turnover, effective from 1 January 2021.
