Listing of hundreds of companies on Thai Stock Exchange offers them alternative to debt financing

As many as 300 companies are ready to list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, according to Twatchai Yongkittikul, secretary-general of the Thai Bankers' Association.

More than 100 companies currently under debt restructuring by local banks were prepared to list, he said.

Other agencies, such as the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Export-Import Bank, the Industrial Finance Corp of Thailand and SME Bank, had reported another 200 companies as potential candidates for the exchange.

The SET had asked the agencies for assistance in encouraging clients to list on the capital market as an alternative funding source to debt financing.

SET executives have announced a target of 50-60 new listings on the main board and the smaller Market for Alternative Investment this year.

In 2002, 18 companies joined the SET and six on the MAI. The SET currently has nearly 400 listed companies.
