Krung Thai Bank aims to lend 40 billion baht to SMEs in 2005


State-owned Krung Thai Bank PCL (KTB.TH) plans to increase loans to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), by 40 billion baht this year from 340 billion baht currently, a bank executive said.

Anantapol Punpeng, Krung Thai Bank's executive vice president, said the new SME loans will be mostly extended to export-related companies, especially to manufacturers of auto parts, electronic components and food processing products.

Bank President Apisak Tantivorawong said recently Krung Thai Bank targets net growth for all loans this year of 70 billion baht, or around 7%, thanks to the country's continuing economic growth. As of end-September, the bank's outstanding loans totalled 976.34 billion baht.
