KBANK to focus on broadening SME base this year

Kasikornbank Plc plans to expand aggressively into the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) base by setting a target to lend more than 320 billion baht to the group this year.

Pakorn Pantanapaet, senior director supervising the commercial corporation business, said the bank would continue to give a priority to SMEs for this year since the group accounts for 50% of its total loans.

Last year, the bank lent 277.56 billion baht to SMEs, up 50.66 billion or 22.33% from the previous year, and 15% higher than targeted.

Of this, 210.45 billion baht was lent to small entrepreneurs with annual sales of no more than 50 million baht, representing a rise of 38.66 billion baht or 22.51%, and 67.11 billion baht to medium entrepreneurs with sales of 50-400 million baht, an increase of 11.99 billion baht or 21.77%.

This year, he said, the bank set a target to lend 325.2 billion baht to SMEs, up 48 billion or 17.16% from last year.
