Josep Selles, respected factoring industry leader, dies in Spain

Josep Selles, one of the factoring sector’s most respected senior executives, has died in Sabadell, Spain, it has been announced by his wife, Anna.

Selles had a long and senior-level career across domestic and international factoring. He held senior roles at Gedesco in Spain, Eurofactor Hispania, where he served as Managing Director, and Banco Sabadell. More recently, he had moved into consultancy.

He was also a prominent figure in industry associations, serving as Vice Chair of the Spanish Factoring Association between 2006 and 2017 and as Chairman of FCI’s Supply Chain Finance Committee from 2015 to 2017.

“Josep was someone who meant a great deal to the FCI family. He gave so many years of service to our organisation and to the industry, always with commitment, wisdom and generosity. For me personally, he was not only an important part of FCI for many years, but also a close friend. We shared many moments together through our work, our travels and our time within the FCI family, and those memories will stay with me. But beyond all of his professional contributions, I believe many of us will remember him most for the kind of person he was; warm, thoughtful, approachable, and deeply respected by those who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. His passing is a real loss for our community and deeply sad on a personal level as well. On behalf of FCI, and from myself, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues. He will be remembered with great respect and great affection.”

He spoke at BCR conferences several times and apart from his outstanding knowledge of factoring, both international and domestic, he was renowned for his understanding of confirming and supply chain finance. Selles will be remembered across the factoring and receivables finance community for his knowledge, leadership and generosity of spirit.
