The Italian factoring market: overview, prevalent business models and future challenges - AT Kearney


The Italian factoring market is the second largest in Europe, it covers about 25 per cent of the European turnover and is quite different from other factoring markets due to the higher proportion of non-recourse products. The Italian factoring market is currently undergoing a revolution brought about by greater attention to the bottom line; the rapidly approaching new Basel Accord the consolidation of the industry; the entrance of new players and the rise of credit insurers.  This article will provide a brief overview of the Italian factoring market and define the challenges for the incumbent players and possible trends.

 

Overview of the Italian factoring market  In 2002, the Italian factoring market realized a turnover of about €145bn, with a Compund Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of about 14 per cent in the period 1999-2002.
