Investec expands UK corporate banking team as mid-market push accelerates

Investec Bank plc has appointed Terry Koizou as Head of Client Relationship Management in its UK Corporate Banking business, supporting the bank’s push into the UK mid-market.

Koizou joins as Investec builds a dedicated relationship management team for entrepreneurial mid-market businesses. The team is expected to grow to more than 40 relationship managers over time.

The appointment follows Investec’s earlier target to provide relationship banking to 1,000 mid-market businesses across the UK by FY2030. The bank said the market includes more than 60,000 companies, many of which it believes are underserved by their existing banks.

The move is relevant because mid-market companies often need more than standard lending. As they grow, refinance, acquire, manage cash flow or expand internationally, they require access to lending, treasury, risk management and advisory support.

Investec is positioning the service around dedicated regional and industry-focused relationship managers, supported by digital tools designed to improve onboarding and client service.

Koizou previously held senior roles at Citi Commercial Bank, where he led Business & Professional Services and Non-Bank Financial Institutions coverage teams across the UK. He has more than 20 years of banking and finance experience, including more than 17 years in commercial and corporate banking.

He joins Simon Jacobs, recently appointed Chief Operating Officer, and Dean Sullivan, Head of Credit and Risk, as Investec strengthens the leadership team behind its UK Corporate Banking build-out.

Andy Hart, Head of Corporate Banking at Investec Bank plc, said the bank is aiming to provide a more personalised model for ambitious mid-market businesses.

For the UK corporate banking market, the appointment points to increasing competition for mid-market clients that may be too complex for standard SME banking but not large enough to receive the full relationship coverage available to major corporates.
