Insolvencies in the first quarter 2004


Statistics showing insolvencies in the first quarter 2004 were published today by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

COMPANY INSOLVENCIES

There were 3,155 company insolvencies in England and Wales in the first quarter of 2004 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This was a decrease of 4.6% on the previous quarter and a decrease of 14.3% on the same period a year ago.

0.8% of active companies became insolvent in the twelve months ended Q1 2004, a decrease on the previous quarter and on the corresponding quarter in 2003.

INDIVIDUAL INSOLVENCIES

There were 10,294 individual insolvencies in England and Wales in the first quarter of 2004 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This was a decrease of 0.5% on the previous quarter, but an increase of 26.8% on the same period a year ago.
