Parliament has passed a new law creating a so-called National Capital Fund (KFK) that is to promote commercial innovation.
The purpose of this new institution is to support micro, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are innovative and which conduct research and development activity. Means to assist eligible firms are to originate from state budget subsidies as well as grants from the EU and other non-refundable foreign sources.
Direct support, however, is to come from other companies structured in the form of capital funds that invest in innovative initiatives while competing for KFK resources. In justifying its legislation, the government states that this method of financing has proven itself in the EU.
